OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital is advancing heart care in central Ohio by offering interventional expertise and innovation. The hospital's Structural Heart Program has gained national and international recognition for its pioneering techniques, groundbreaking research, and less invasive treatments for complex heart conditions.

Riverside Methodist is among the first in the United States to lead national training efforts on 3D Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE). This advanced imaging technology eliminates the need for scopes or general anesthesia in many heart procedures. "We’ve shifted away from traditional, more invasive imaging tools and now use 3D ICE to perform procedures like valve repairs and left atrial appendage closures with remarkable precision and patient comfort,” said Dr. Carlos Sanchez, MD, an interventional cardiologist at OhioHealth.

The hospital is also improving recovery after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), a common treatment for severe aortic valve disease. Their innovative approach allows more patients to return home safely the day after surgery. OhioHealth physicians have contributed to updating national guidelines for performing TAVR in patients who cannot undergo the procedure using traditional access points.

The Structural Heart Program's medical team is noted for its global collaboration and local impact. “This level of expertise is rare, and it’s happening right here in Columbus,” said Dr. Steven Yakubov, MD, medical chief of the OhioHealth Structural Heart Program.
