Jeffrey Preston Bezos Executive Chairman of Amazon | Amazon

Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., has announced the general availability of Amazon Aurora DSQL, a serverless distributed SQL database. The new offering is designed to support applications with high availability, multi-region strong consistency, and PostgreSQL compatibility. According to AWS, Aurora DSQL provides read and write speeds up to four times faster than other popular distributed SQL databases.

G2 Krishnamoorthy, vice president of Database Services at AWS, stated: "Modern applications require databases that can deliver both world-class performance and strong consistency without compromise." He added that Aurora DSQL allows customers to build applications with virtually unlimited scalability and zero operational overhead.

Aurora DSQL is available in eight AWS regions with plans for further expansion. Customers such as ADP, DeNA, and Robinhood are already using the service. Jimmy Adams from ADP highlighted its benefits: "Aurora DSQL's single-digit millisecond response times, automatic scaling, and active-active multi-region architecture can help us efficiently handle surges in data volumes."

Hiroyuki Nishizaki from DeNA mentioned that Aurora DSQL simplifies infrastructure management by replacing multiple database shards with a single endpoint. Haotian Xu from Robinhood noted the potential for efficiency gains: "The efficiency gains and operational simplicity offered by Aurora DSQL are substantial."

Users can access Aurora DSQL through the console without upfront commitments, paying only for the processing units and storage used. It is currently available in various regions including US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Paris), Europe (London), Europe (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), and Asia Pacific (Osaka).
