A local Girl Scout troop has taken steps to ensure the safety of newborns at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Girl Scout Troop #3591 donated three new infant car seats to the hospital's Women’s Health Unit. These car seats are intended for families who cannot afford to purchase ones that meet safety standards.
Erika M., a registered nurse and leader of the girl scout troop, is also part of the Women’s Health Unit staff at Mansfield Hospital. She identified a need within the community for accessible car seats. “There's a community need for some car seats to be on hand, and there just wasn't any available,” Erika stated. She observed that weekends posed particular challenges when community resources were less accessible, prompting her to involve her troop in addressing this gap. “Our troop has a mission to serve and uplift the community,” she said, explaining their decision to use funds from cookie sales to purchase and donate car seats.
The donation was delivered personally by Troop #3591 during a visit to Mansfield Hospital. Kelly Payne, MSN, RNC-NIC, nurse manager at Mansfield Hospital, expressed gratitude for the contribution: “We were thrilled to receive this donation from our local girl scout group. Making sure our patients have what they need to keep their children safe is incredibly important to our staff, so these donations are invaluable.”
