Qatar Airways and Boeing have announced a significant agreement for the purchase of up to 210 widebody aircraft. This deal marks the largest order for Boeing's widebody jets, including a substantial number of 787 Dreamliners and additional orders for the new 777-9 model. The transaction is expected to support around 400,000 jobs in the United States and enable Qatar Airways to expand its international operations.
The order comprises 130 of the fuel-efficient 787 Dreamliners, known for their long-range capabilities and passenger comfort. It also includes 30 units of the twin-engine 777-9, which promises improved efficiency by reducing fuel use and emissions by 25% compared to older models. There are options for an additional 50 aircraft from both families.
U.S. President Donald J. Trump and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Amir of Qatar were present at the signing ceremony alongside key figures such as Boeing President Kelly Ortberg, Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope, and Qatar Airways CEO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer expressed enthusiasm about this partnership with Boeing: "We are happy to announce our agreement with Boeing and our partnership in the largest aircraft order in our history." He emphasized that this move aligns with Qatar Airways' strategy to maintain a modern fleet while meeting global travel demand efficiently.
Stephanie Pope remarked on the significance of this collaboration: "We are deeply honored that Qatar Airways has placed this record-breaking order with Boeing."
Currently operating over 150 Boeing aircraft, Qatar Airways will become the largest operator of the 787 Dreamliner in the Middle East following this acquisition.
Qatar Airways has received numerous accolades, including 'World's Best Airline' at Skytrax's World Airline Awards multiple times. The airline operates more than 170 destinations globally through its Doha hub at Hamad International Airport.
