Meta announced the launch of a new Meta AI app, built with Llama 4, marking a step towards creating a more personal AI experience. Users globally are familiar with Meta AI through platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. Now, they have the option to use a standalone app designed for voice interaction with Meta AI.
According to Meta, “Meta AI is built to get to know you, so its answers are more helpful.” The app aims to make interactions more seamless and natural by being easy to talk to and more social. It also allows users to utilize voice features while multitasking on their devices, with an icon indicating when the microphone is in use.
The app's Llama 4 model provides responses that are more personal and relevant. It integrates with other Meta AI features such as image generation and editing, enabling these functions through voice or text conversations with the AI assistant.
Additionally, a voice demo with full-duplex technology is included. “This technology will deliver a more natural voice experience trained on conversational dialogue, so the AI is generating voice directly instead of reading written responses.” However, this feature is not connected to real-time information on the web. While technical issues may arise, Meta plans to improve the experience based on user feedback.
Initially, voice conversations and the full duplex demo are available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Meta encourages individuals to visit their help center for more information on managing their experience on the app.
Meta AI is designed to assist users with problem-solving, daily inquiries, and understanding their surroundings. It can conduct web searches, offer recommendations, and maintain connectivity with friends and family. For casual interactions, the app provides conversation starters.
Meta emphasizes that the AI assistant can remember user preferences, such as a love for travel or language learning, to offer more personalized responses. This personalization is enhanced by information shared on Meta platforms, with added benefits for users who link their Facebook and Instagram accounts.
The newly launched Meta AI app features a Discover feed, allowing users to explore and share AI usage prompts. User control over shared content remains a priority.
Meta AI is incorporated across all platforms and devices, including integration with Ray-Ban Meta glasses. This combination allows for continuity in AI experiences, such as starting conversations on the glasses and continuing them on the app.
The Meta AI web platform is also receiving feature upgrades, including voice interactions and a Discover feed. Enhancements include an optimized interface for desktops and improved image generation elements. In select regions, a document editor for creating and exporting documents as PDFs is under testing. Meta is also evaluating a feature to import documents for AI analysis.
Meta highlights the intuitive nature of voice interaction with AI and has made voice the center of the Meta AI app experience, allowing users to start conversations at the press of a button. The app is available on iOS and Android.
