In 2024, AAA dealt with over 27 million roadside service calls in the United States. A significant portion of these calls involved towing needs or battery issues, making up around 74% of the total. In comparison, service calls for electric vehicles composed about 0.8% of the total. During April, designated as Car Care Month, AAA highlights the importance of routine vehicle maintenance to avoid breakdowns.

AAA emphasizes the role of new vehicle technologies that alert drivers to the need for maintenance checks, such as tire pressure and oil changes. However, AAA advises that regular maintenance is essential regardless of a vehicle’s age.

AAA offers tips for vehicle upkeep, including regular inspections available at their Approved Auto Repair shops, monitoring for any unusual sounds, smells, or leaks, and checking for any pending recalls via NHTSA.gov/Recalls using the Vehicle Identification Number. Marking calendars for periodic checks on tire pressure and fluid levels is also recommended by AAA.

For those needing roadside assistance, AAA suggests utilizing their Digital Roadside Request tool or texting their help service number for efficient aid. AAA provides services that help with cost estimation for repairs and offers member discounts at numerous shops in its network.

Further, AAA runs an Approved Auto Repair program with shops that meet strict standards and whose technicians are certified or factory-trained. Shops interested in joining the program can explore opportunities through AAA's website. Additionally, AAA has partnered with NAPA Autotech on a mentorship program to provide aspiring technicians with practical experience.
