Amazon has announced investments exceeding $1.2 trillion in the United States since 2010, encompassing infrastructure and employee compensation. In Illinois alone, the company has invested $28 billion during this period.

According to Amazon, these investments are estimated to have contributed $1 trillion to the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) based on input-output methodology developed by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. In 2023 alone, Amazon invested $244 billion in the U.S., supporting 4.8 million jobs. This total includes 1 million direct full- and part-time jobs, over 2 million indirect jobs in areas such as construction and logistics, and 1.8 million jobs created through independent sellers operating on Amazon.com, primarily small and medium-sized businesses.

The company reports that it has invested $28 billion in Illinois since 2010, with an estimated $31 billion added to the state GDP. Amazon created 40,000 direct full- and part-time jobs and supported 50,600 additional jobs indirectly, based on the same input-output methodology. The company supports over 15,000 independent sellers in Illinois, most of which are small and medium-sized businesses.

Amazon's investments in Illinois include various facilities: 27 fulfillment and sortation centers, 16 delivery stations, one grocery hub, one air hub, 26 Whole Foods Market locations, five Amazon Go stores, four Amazon Hub Locker+ locations, two Prime Now fulfillment centers, nine Amazon Fresh retail locations, two wind farms, six solar farms, and one on-site solar installation.

The company provides a range of services including online and in-person shopping, delivery of fresh produce, media distribution through devices like Alexa and Fire TV; cloud solutions via Amazon Web Services (AWS); logistics; customer service; and entertainment platforms such as Amazon Originals, Prime Video, and Audible.
