The national average for a gallon of gasoline is approaching the $3 mark, which would be the first time since May 2021. Currently, the average stands at $3.08, following a two-cent drop last week. However, this downward trend may face challenges due to potential weather disruptions in the Gulf of Mexico.
Andrew Gross, spokesperson for AAA, commented on the situation: "Hurricane Rafael fizzled out, but now we are facing the possible formation of Hurricane Sara." He added that some early tracking models suggest it could head toward Florida by next week.
In addition to monitoring gas prices, AAA also tracks electricity costs at public charging stations across states. The current national average cost for a kilowatt of electricity remains steady at 34 cents.
