Woodward High School's Marching Band, "The Pride," has been awarded a $3,000 grant to enhance its musical capabilities. The funding allowed the band to acquire three new trombones and six trumpets, which have made rehearsals more engaging.
Activities Beyond the Classroom facilitated the purchase of these instruments, ensuring that the band has the necessary resources. With these additions, "The Pride" is set to perform at various events throughout the school year.
The band is already participating in college homecoming parades, football games, and the Battle of the Bands. These new instruments not only improve sound quality but also offer students opportunities for personal expression and musical development.
Tyree Gilbert, the marching band coach, highlighted the significance of these new instruments: “They give students a sense of importance and improve intonation compared to outdated instruments. Marching down the street with shiny horns captures the audience's attention.”
Gilbert described how students reacted to receiving their new instruments: “When they were called to the office, they were so excited, especially after we received sousaphones earlier. Opening the cases to reveal the new instruments led to screams of joy, high-fives, and jumping around. Many students don’t have access to new instruments, and it truly makes a difference in their sound.”
The Woodward High School Marching Band continues to showcase its talent and passion through performances that resonate with audiences in their community.
