Amazon announced that the Progressive Policy Institute ranked the company as the leading Investment Hero. The ranking was awarded to Amazon due to its record on investing more in the United States—including Kentucky—than any other American company.

According to an article posted on Amazon’s News page on job creation and investment, the Keystone Strategy report reveals the company contributed more than $1 trillion to the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) since 2010. Last year alone, Amazon directly invested more than $244 billion in the United States. These investments include compensation to Amazon employees and the development of company infrastructure.

The article states that Amazon’s investments supported more than 2 million U.S. jobs across a range of fields, such as construction, retail, healthcare, hospitality, and professional services. Additionally, Amazon marketplace members employ an additional 1.8 million workers.

A typical mid-sized county that receives Amazon’s investment has 4,400 more new jobs than a county that does not, according to the article. In addition, the median household income in counties where Amazon invests rises annually by up to 2.2%, which equates to $1,350 per household.

Since 2010, Amazon has invested $43 billion in Kentucky, significantly contributing to the state's economy, according to Amazon's Economic Impact Report. This investment has added $39 billion to Kentucky's GDP and created 22,000 full- and part-time jobs as of January 2024. Additionally, Amazon's presence has supported 50,300 indirect jobs based on U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis methodology. The company also supports over 3,000 independent sellers in the state, many of which are small and medium-sized businesses. Key investments in Kentucky include 11 fulfillment and sortation centers, five delivery stations, one air hub, two Whole Foods Market locations, four solar farms, and one on-site solar location.
