PayPal announced the testing of its new express checkout method, Fastlane by PayPal, which streamlines the checkout process for users when online shopping.
The new method has been going through testing with select merchants through PayPal’s Braintree platform and merchants on long time PayPal partner BigCommerce. So far, the test has revealed that Fastlane recognizes about 70% of guests at checkout, and when it does, the checkout speeds are 40% faster than a traditional checkout.
Fastlane works by recognizing users and auto-filling information like credit card numbers and address information.
“I think simplifying the checkout process is one of the biggest areas of opportunity right now,” said Adorama CIO/CTO Hani Batla. “It’s important because we know the greatest point of losing someone in the whole sales funnel is the checkout. So, as much friction as you can take away at that final step, the better it is.”
PayPal plans to launch Fastlane to all businesses later this year.
