Lynette Wagner creates products that she hopes “will make people smile.”

Her Michigan-based company, Florida Dancing Birds LLC, makes “birds and critters that dance on the breeze, appear to saunter along, and dip as if feeding,” according to the company's website.

"Each item is handcrafted in the USA with care,” according to the company. “Each is similar but with its own 'personality.' They are durable, made of UV-resistant PVC, exterior paint and come with a galvanized stake. They dip up and down and swivel 360 degrees. Simply lift off the stake and bring in during severe weather.”

Looking to expand her company's reach, Wagner began using the platform The Grommet to sell her products about a year ago.

“The Grommet is super easy to work with,” Wagner told Michigan Business Daily. “Everyone at The Grommet has been great to work with. Using the platform is easy. The automation makes it easier for us to spend our time better. No worries about invoicing or payments."

The Grommet gives "entrepreneurs, innovators and creators a platform to showcase their big ideas,” according to the company. "The Grommet is the only platform that supports makers, innovators and entrepreneurs launching their product, protecting their intellectual property, helping build their brand and providing an efficient, economical platform where the makers don’t face exuberant sellers fees."

Wagner said she has never used Etsy or Amazon to sell her products.

"We are selective in who we work with," she said.

Sellers on the Etsy platform are striking this week over an increase of 1.5% on transaction fees, the Wall Street Journal reported.

As of Friday April 15, more than 79,000 had signed a petition asking Etsy to to cancel its fee increase.

Amazon, meanwhile, has been criticized for collecting data from third-party sellers and using it to replicate consumer goods, which some argue is counterfeiting, Reuters reports.

Starting April 28, Amazon will a “fuel and inflation” surcharge of five percent to fees it collects from third-party sellers using it for product fulfillment.
