(Sponsored Content) -- These days it’s all about having a side gig and extra income.
For Gyula, a.k.a Julius Moldvan, a part-time driver from Central Jersey, working for Uber has allowed him to make extra cash for the things he needed.
“I wanted to see if I was going to be good at customer service if that makes sense,” Gyula recently told New Jersey Business Daily. “If I could handle you know, a car service or driving people around, you know. Because my normal nine-to-five job is I work for UPS full time, so for me, Uber was just going to be like a.part-time gig anyway, just to make extra money and pay off things I needed to pay off... . I was never gonna do it full time."
A recent Hamilton Project report said that, "gig work was especially valued by workers seeking income during an extended job search."
“It helped a lot, especially when you have a kid in college," Gyula said. "It's unreal how expensive it is to have a kid in college and the amount of money you spend on just the supplies alone for the dorm ... so yeah, it does help."
A Pew Research Center survey found people using ride-sharing apps like Uber more than doubled from 2015 to 2018. As the use of ride-sharing apps continues to increase, the demand for gig workers is also growing.
A Freelance Union and Upwork survey in 2019 estimated that by 2027 half the U.S. workforce would be made up of gig workers.
