Elanco Animal Health, a pharmaceutical company based in Indiana that makes medicines and vaccinations for pets and livestock, announced it will establish a new global headquarters in Indianapolis on a 45-acre site at the southwestern corner of town along the White River.
The company has already called Indiana home with a headquarters in Greenfield’s Progress Park. Company officials said they will work with the state to find a new tenant for the Greenfield site.
“With a shared vision for the future of the agbioscience industry and the modern, post-COVID era workplace in Indiana, we are pleased Elanco can serve as a catalyst through our global headquarters and base of future consolidated operations and capabilities in Indiana,” Elanco president and CEO Jeff Simmons said on the company’s website. “In partnership with Governor Holcomb, (Indianapolis) Mayor Hogsett and the IEDC (Indiana Economic Development Corp.), we look forward to continuing our nearly 70-year history in Indiana, building a leading animal health company and serving the Indianapolis community.”
The company’s website described the planned project as a “smarter, smaller more efficient headquarters built with the Latest COVID-19 era learnings (25% less office space), and a streamlined fit for purpose facility.”
The company will have an additional 20 acres at the site under a restricted option deal.
As part of incentive package with the City of Indianapolis and the State of Indiana, redevelopments in the area will include tax credits for the retention of 1,600 jobs, with 570 jobs planned to be added over the following 10 years. The package also allows training and relocation grants.
The site of the new Elanco Animal Health headquarters was formerly a GM stamping plant. Elanco will spend $100 million on the development and the project is expected to take two to three years to complete.
Indiana Gov. Eric J. Holcomb (R-IN) called the new facility a momentous day for Indiana.
“We celebrate Elanco’s decision to establish its global headquarters in central Indiana, positioning itself for future growth and consolidation in the Hoosier state and creating hundreds of high-paying jobs for Hoosiers,” Holcomb said. “Elanco is an important asset to Indiana - a leader in our growing agbioscience sector, which is poised to grow and continue innovating. We are thrilled with the direction of Elanco’s future and the transformational impact its growth will have on the agbioscience sector, the downtown Indianapolis footprint, and most importantly, the lives of Hoosier workers.”
