Sandvik Materials Technology is expanding its operations to Tuscon, Arizona.
The developer of advanced stainless steels and specialty alloys has leased 8,800 feet of space near the Tuscon International Airport. The five-year expansion is scheduled to add 20 new jobs in operations and manufacturing.
In the medical industry, Sandvik creates precision medical wire and wire-based components.
The Florida company began to look at sites to expand its operation. "We needed a west coast location near our customers and a superior technical workforce, which we found at the University of Arizona, Pima Community College and ASU," Gary Davies, head of Business Unite Medical at Sandvik Materials Technology, said in a press release from the Arizona Commerce Authority. "Tucson really checked all the boxes for us."
“Sandvik Materials Technology’s decision to expand their operations in Tucson is good news for Southern Arizona’s economy,” Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said in the press release. “Arizona has a lot to offer businesses, from a pro-business environment to a talented workforce and exceptional quality of life, and we’re glad to have high-tech companies like Sandvik bringing more jobs and investment to our state.”
