A Dallas-based mattress manufacturer has begun hiring the first of as many as 350 workers for the $8.6 million production facility it is leasing and equipping in La Porte, Indiana.

Corsicana Mattress Company will operate its boxed-bed manufacturing at the 165,000-square-foot facility at 755 S. 500 West in La Porte, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said on In.gov.

Hiring and training will begin immediately for manufacturing and warehouse positions using a temporary space on Woodland Avenue in Michigan City. People interested in these positions can apply online. The company anticipates reaching its employment goal at the facility by the end of 2023.

Bringing the production to Indiana enables same-day shipping in some key markets for the company, In.gov reported.

"We are very pleased that a job training grant fund which the council funded a few years ago is being used as part of the inducement, along with a personal and real property abatement to help sweeten the deal so we could land this company over other competing sites,” LaPorte County Council president Randy Novak and Sheila Matias, Commissioner president said in a joint statement, In.gov reported. “Bottom line – having a well-trained workforce, marketing our county’s many pluses and offering a perfect setting for this operation at Pinola made the difference.”

Corsicana Mattress Company (Corsicana Mattress), a Dallas-based mattress manufacturer, announced plans today to establish a Midwest presence in Indiana, creating up to 350 new jobs by the end of 2023.

"Indiana's strong history of manufacturing, central location, and skilled talent pipeline will set Corsicana up for success for generations to come," Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger said, In.gov reported.

“We have had significant growth in our boxed bed business and require a facility that is appropriately equipped with well-trained employees to provide the manufacturing efficiency to support that growth,” Michael Thompson, CEO of Corsicana Mattress, told In.gov.

Corsicana will receive up to $2.3 million in conditional tax credits based on the plan to create 350 jobs. The company can claim tax credits once Hoosiers are hired. Additional incentives were approved by the LaPorte County Council and County Commissioners approved additional incentives.
