Cochise County issued the following announcement on July 19.
World Breastfeeding Week celebrations will come to Cochise County next month as part of ongoing efforts to provide healthy environments for local children. The theme for this year is “Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding: Now and for the future!”.
The Cochise County Breastfeeding Taskforce will be highlighting events and resources from August 1-7 to help in its mission to ensure a strong, positive breastfeeding climate. The taskforce is made up of community partners, including Cochise Health & Social Services, WIC, Canyon Vista Medical Center, Fort Huachuca, University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Health Start, Easterseals Blake Foundation, Child & Family Resources, Chiricahua Community Health Centers and the Arizona Department of Health Services.
The public is invited to an official kickoff event on Saturday, August 3, where families can network, visit local resource tables, participate in activities, and learn from local health experts. This event will be held at the University of Arizona, Sierra Vista Campus, in the Groth Hall Public Meeting Room, 1140 N. Columbo, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
During the week, moms are being encouraged to share their breastfeeding experiences with others, to use the hashtags #WBW2019 and #WBWCochise to share breastfeeding moments, and to plan a breastfeeding meetup in their community.
