The Coconino County Board of Supervisors recently enacted its Wildfire Defense Ordinance Stage One fire restrictions for the section of the county that is north of the Grand Canyon.

According to the county, the board will leave the restrictions in effect until there are no longer fire danger conditions. The area of Coconino County below the south rim of the Grand Canyon is already under Stage Two fire restrictions.

The Stage One restrictions include the prohibiting of any combustion, open fire and camp fires. Exceptions include those with a written permit from a governmental authority. Residents of Coconino County are being asked to use caution and their best judgment when smoking outdoors or engaging in any activity that could spark a fire.

Residents can visit coconino.az.gov/ready for more information on the ordinance as well for maps of the fire restriction areas.
