Phoenix-based Valley Metro was recently recognized at the 17th annual WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Scholarships and Awards Ceremony, where two of its transportation professionals received awards, WTS International said in a release.

Valley Metro accepted awards for Innovative Transportation Solutions for the Valley Metro Rail Public Art Program led by MB Finnerty and the Woman of the Year award to Teri Collins, bus services program supervisor, the release said.

WTS, which is dedicated to the professional advancement of women in transportation, said in the release that that $12,000 in scholarships were also awarded to five undergraduate or graduate women who are pursuing studies in a transportation-related field, such as engineering or planning.

Valley Metro CEO Scott Smith also was recognized for supporting efforts to advance women in transportation, the release said.

Valley Metro provides eco-friendly public transit options to residents of greater Phoenix and Maricopa County including a regional bus system and the development and operations of 26 miles of light rail, the release said.

WTS is an international organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women in transportation.
