SRP recently honored 16 innovative Valley businesses, schools and nonprofits at its Champions of Energy Efficiency Awards and Luncheon.

At the third annual event, Salt River Project honored businesses for participating in SRP’s commercial energy efficiency rebate and Energy Star Homes programs.

“Every year, SRP helps businesses become more energy-efficient by providing rebates on thousands of projects that our customers submit,” Dan Dreiling, SRP director of market research and customer programs, said. “We created this special event to honor our top commercial energy savers and recognize their ongoing commitment to energy efficiency. Being named an SRP Champion of Energy Efficiency is a significant achievement. These companies serve as examples for other businesses to follow.”

In the schools category, Phoenix Union High School District (PUHSD) won an award for educating staff and students about energy conservation and sustainability. The district's efforts have saved nearly $1.5 million.

The Phoenician Resort won in the large business category. Rooms are being renovated add LED lighting and smart thermostats that automatically adjust room temperature when guests leave the room.

The City of Chandler won in the municipality category. Sustainability and energy efficiency are integrated into the city's genera plan and policies.

Maracay Homes won the award in the homebuilder category for buiding ENERGY STAR-certified homes with efficient technologies.
