In response to the Trump administration's release of its AI Action Plan, the Center for Data Innovation has issued a statement from Senior Policy Manager Hodan Omaar. The statement acknowledges the significance of the AI Action Plan as an indicator of the administration's commitment to leading in global AI development.
Hodan Omaar remarked, "The AI Action Plan shows the Trump administration is serious about winning the global AI race. It marks a clear evolution from the President’s 2019 AI initiative and reflects just how dramatically the global AI landscape has shifted over the past six years." The plan aims to position the United States at the forefront by addressing infrastructure needs, regulatory challenges, and promoting exports of American AI technology.
Omaar also highlighted that for Americans to back these initiatives, they need to experience improvements in areas such as energy costs, healthcare services, disaster response times, and public service efficiency. The plan includes commitments to domain-specific efforts and regulatory sandboxes in sectors like healthcare, energy, and agriculture. Omaar stated that whether these efforts scale successfully will determine if "the plan fulfills its dual promise: AI for the American people—and American AI for global leadership."
