The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced the opening of a Business Recovery Center (BRC) in Pulaski County, Kentucky. This initiative aims to assist small businesses, private nonprofits, and residents affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes that occurred on March 16-17.
Starting Monday, June 16, SBA customer service representatives will be available at the Business Recovery Center to address inquiries about the SBA's disaster loan program. They will also explain the application process and help individuals complete their applications. Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments can be scheduled in advance at appointment.sba.gov.
The BRC is located at the Emergency Management Office on 25 Jessie Lane in Somerset, KY. It will operate from Monday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., remaining closed on Sundays. The permanent closing date for the center is yet to be determined.
Chris Stallings, associate administrator of the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the SBA, emphasized the importance of these centers: “SBA’s Business Recovery Centers have consistently proven their value to business owners following a disaster,” he said. “Business owners can visit these centers to meet face-to-face with specialists who will guide them through the disaster loan application process and connect them with resources to support their recovery.”
Disaster survivors are encouraged not to wait for insurance settlements before applying for a disaster loan. If there is uncertainty about how much loss will be covered by insurance or other sources, SBA can provide a low-interest disaster loan for total losses up to its limits. Borrowers must agree to use insurance proceeds to reduce or repay the loan.
Applications can be submitted online at sba.gov/disaster. For more information on SBA disaster assistance, applicants may call (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Telecommunications relay services are available by dialing 7-1-1 for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech disabilities.
The deadline for submitting applications for physical property damage is July 23, 2025. Economic injury applications must be returned by February 23, 2026.
