The fifth edition of the 'Made by Africa, Loved by the World' campaign is set to celebrate Africa Day on May 25. This year's initiative highlights Facebook's role in connecting and showcasing African culture, featuring creatives from across the continent through three collaborative short films. These films encompass talents from film, animation, dance, music, and photography to present a powerful display of African creativity and global influence.
Kezia Anim-Addo, Communications Director for Africa, Middle East & Turkey (AMET), stated: “We’re incredibly excited to shine a spotlight and celebrate some of the amazing creative talent that casts a light on our African culture and connects us to the world. Facebook is a leading place for conversations around cultural moments around the world. Through this campaign, we’re not only celebrating individual success stories – we’re also showcasing how culture and social media together can drive meaningful connection and inspiration.”
The short films feature six African creatives collaborating across regions and disciplines. In South Africa, a fashion designer and filmmaker work together to create a visual story blending garments with landscapes. A Nigeria-Kenya collaboration involves a rapper's narration paired with animated visuals. From Ghana, a dancer teams up with a street photographer to produce a cinematic portrait combining movement with still imagery.
Additionally, Meta AI is being used in partnership with African content creators to help people discover diverse cultural narratives across the continent.
Monde Twala, SVP and GM of Paramount Africa expressed pride in partnering with Meta for this campaign: “MTV Base Africa is proud to partner with Meta on this year’s ‘Made by Africa, Loved by the World’ campaign — a powerful celebration of African creativity and its global influence. This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission to continue to spotlight the continent’s vibrant talent and amplify authentic African stories that resonate worldwide."
The films bring together:
