The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) has been recognized with two Awards of Distinction at the 31st Annual Communicator Awards. The awards honor visual excellence in strategic communication. CDT's reports, "More Tools, More Control" and "Screened Out," received accolades in the Print Content-Causes & Awareness category for surpassing industry standards in quality and achievement.
Timothy Hoagland, CDT’s deputy director of communications, design, and digital, led the art direction for both reports. Hoagland has been with CDT for over a decade and is known for his ability to translate complex research into clear and engaging visual formats. This approach ensures that CDT's work resonates with policy makers, civil society, and public audiences.
"More Tools, More Control," authored by Michal Luria, explores teenagers' online experiences to understand unwanted messages they receive and the strategies they use to stay safe.
"Screened Out," co-authored by Michal Luria along with Matthew Scherer, Dhanaraj Thakur, Ariana Aboulafia from CDT; Henry Claypool from AAPD; and Wilneida Negrón from Coworker.org examines the impact of modern computer-based assessments on disabled job applicants.
This year's Communicator Awards highlight how communication fosters human connection across various mediums, stories, and cultures. With over 3,000 entries globally, the Awards of Distinction acknowledge projects that exceed industry standards under this year's theme: "Communication is Connection."
The Communicator Awards are organized by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts and welcome submissions from all organizations and individuals involved in marketing and communication work.
