The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) have submitted comments to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding technology platform censorship. This response is part of the FTC's request for public input on this issue.

Both organizations have highlighted their expertise in content moderation and discussed the legal constraints involved in regulating platforms' editorial decisions. Their comments point out that the FTC's authority over unfair and deceptive trade practices has limitations when it comes to content moderation.

CDT and EFF urge the FTC to use its competition authority to broaden, rather than restrict, speech and platform options available to users. They caution against any enforcement actions that might favor specific viewpoints or strategies, as this could harm both the social media market and the broader marketplace of ideas.
