CarPlay Ultra, the next generation of CarPlay, is now available for new Aston Martin vehicle orders in the U.S. and Canada. It will soon be accessible for existing models equipped with the brand's next-generation infotainment system via a software update. CarPlay Ultra enhances the in-car experience by integrating deeply with vehicles to combine features of both iPhone and the car itself.
Bob Borchers, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, stated, “iPhone users love CarPlay, and it has transformed how people connect with their vehicles. With CarPlay Ultra, together with automakers, we are reimagining the in-car experience, making it even more unified and consistent.”
The updated system provides real-time content across all driver screens, including customizable options for speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, and temperature gauge. It also allows drivers to manage vehicle functions using onscreen controls or Siri. Additionally, CarPlay Ultra introduces widgets powered by iPhone that fit perfectly into the car's display.
Automakers can incorporate their unique design philosophies into CarPlay Ultra’s interface. Adrian Hallmark, Aston Martin’s CEO, commented on this collaboration: “Aston Martin is delighted to have collaborated with Apple and to be first to launch CarPlay Ultra... Building on our in-house state-of-the-art infotainment system, CarPlay Ultra will provide additional functionality and personalization opportunities.”
Other brands like Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are also working to integrate CarPlay Ultra into their vehicles. The service requires an iPhone 12 or later running iOS 18.5 or newer.
