Gov. Andy Beshear has announced an expansion of Aegis Sortation in Louisville, Kentucky. The manufacturing company plans to invest nearly $16 million in a new facility, creating 80 jobs. Aegis Sortation specializes in efficient and high-quality sortation solutions and aims to better serve its customers through this strategic move.
Gov. Beshear highlighted the ongoing growth in Kentucky's manufacturing sector. He stated, "Kentucky’s manufacturing sector continues to grow and create incredible job opportunities for our communities. This expansion project by Aegis Sortation is just the latest example of a Kentucky company continuing to reinvest in the communities they serve. I am excited to see Aegis continue to grow in the Louisville area."
The new facility in Louisville will serve as the company's manufacturing operations headquarters, enhancing their production capabilities. This investment is expected to add various roles, including engineering design, project management, and positions in multitiered manufacturing, warehouse, and support. Tony Young, founder and CEO of Aegis, remarked on the company's growth, stating, "We are honored to be part of this growth initiative in Kentucky." He noted that Aegis has expanded significantly over the past four years, driven by the surge in e-commerce demands for automation.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg expressed enthusiasm for the company's expansion, mentioning, "We’re thrilled Aegis Sortation continues to invest in Louisville." The city is recognized for its strong logistics and distribution sectors, with Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport ranked as a leading cargo airport.
Additionally, Trevor Pawl, CEO at Louisville Economic Development Alliance, praised the company’s innovations in logistics: "Aegis Sortation is the exact type of logistics company we like to see grow in Louisville."
The expansion complements a significant period of economic growth in Kentucky. Since the beginning of Gov. Beshear’s administration, over $35 billion in investments have been announced across the state, creating more than 60,500 jobs—a record high for any Kentucky governor's tenure.
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) has preliminarily approved a 10-year incentive agreement with Aegis under the Kentucky Business Investment program, promising up to $2.2 million in tax incentives. The performance-based agreement is contingent on Aegis meeting specified job creation and wage targets.
Furthermore, KEDFA approved up to $300,000 in tax incentives for Aegis through the Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act, which allows recovery of certain taxes on construction costs and equipment.
By fulfilling its targets, Aegis Sortation would be eligible to retain a portion of the tax revenue it generates, benefiting from incentives against its income tax liability. Additionally, the company will receive resources from Kentucky's workforce service providers, including recruitment and job-training services.
