Governor Andy Beshear, local officials, and Bakery Express Midwest leaders celebrated the opening of a new facility in Boone County. This occasion marks a $20 million investment, creating over 225 jobs in the region.
"I want to congratulate Bakery Express Midwest on this significant milestone in Boone County," stated Governor Beshear. He highlighted the economic growth and expressed eagerness to see the company's success in Kentucky.
The project’s initiation was announced in June 2023, with construction starting in January 2024. The 50,000-square-foot facility will supply baked goods to Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee.
Bakery Express Midwest CEO Art DiLullo commented on the facility's completion: "It has been 444 days since we broke ground here in Boone County, Kentucky, and with the commitment of all our partners... we have successfully planned and executed the grand opening of our newest fresh daily bakery operation."
Founded in 1970 by Charles Burman, Bakery Express has extended across the U.S., currently employing 620 people. The product line includes various baked goods.
Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore remarked, "I am thrilled Bakery Express Midwest has chosen to invest in our region, and we certainly welcome more than 225 new, good-paying jobs for Boone County."
Lee Crume, CEO of BE NKY Growth Partnership, noted, "Bakery Express Midwest’s $20 million investment is a strong addition to Northern Kentucky’s thriving food and flavoring industry."
The investment contributes to the significant economic growth seen in Kentucky over the past five years. Governor Beshear has announced over 1,100 new-location and expansion projects since taking office, representing $35 billion in investments and creating over 60,500 jobs.
His administration also focused on the electric vehicle battery production sector, securing notable projects from Ford Motor Co. and SK On, AESC, Toyota, and others. The state has achieved over 2 million jobs and retains that number, with recent rating increases from major credit agencies.
To support economic development, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority approved tax incentives for Bakery Express Midwest under the Kentucky Business Investment program. KEDFA also provides workforce service resources to aid recruitment and training.
The developments reflect Kentucky's strong economic momentum and efforts to attract investments and innovation. The new facility is seen as a positive addition to the Northern Kentucky region.
