The City of Covington's Historic Preservation Office is currently seeking nominations for the Covington Preservation Excellence Awards. These awards are intended to honor projects that have preserved or revitalized historic buildings within the community.

"The awards honor projects that have preserved or revitalized historic buildings throughout our community," said Kaitlin Bryan, Covington Historic Preservation Officer.

Nominations must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1. The awards will recognize individuals or organizations for preservation projects completed between January and December 2024. The winners will be selected by the City's Economic Development staff. Nomination forms can be found on the Covington Preservation Excellence Award Program webpage.

Awards will be presented in five categories:

- Exterior Restoration-Residential: This category acknowledges historic residential projects that have restored a building's exterior with exceptional care in respecting its historic fabric and setting.

- Exterior Restoration Mixed-Use/Commercial: Similar to the residential category, this award recognizes mixed-use or commercial structures restored with careful attention to historical details.

- Adaptive Re-use Residential: This award highlights successful adaptive reuse of a residential property while retaining its historic materials as a prime design element.

- Adaptive Re-use Mixed-Use Commercial: Recognizes adaptive reuse of mixed-use or commercial properties, maintaining historical integrity in new designs.

- Interior Excellence: Acknowledges outstanding achievement in preserving, restoring, or rehabilitating the interior of a building.

"Award-winning projects will embody the goals of preserving, protecting, and celebrating Covington’s built heritage and its unique sense of place," added Bryan.

To nominate a property for an award, complete a nomination form and submit it along with supporting documents to the City of Covington’s Historic Preservation Office at City Hall, 20 W. Pike St. For more information about the program or questions regarding nomination forms, contact Kaitlin Bryan at (859) 292-2171 or via email at kaitlin.bryan@covingtonky.gov.

Traditionally awarded in May during National Historic Preservation Month, this year's ceremony will coincide with the Covington Authenti-CITY awards during National Economic Development Week from May 11 to May 17. Details regarding the ceremony's location, date, and time are yet to be determined.
