The Bank of America Chicago Marathon has announced that participants in the 2024 event raised a record $36 million for various nonprofits, marking the highest fundraising total in the marathon's history. Since its inception in 2002, the marathon's Charity Program has facilitated over $358 million in donations.

Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski expressed enthusiasm about the program's growth and the dedication of runners. "We’re excited by the growth of the Charity Program and the commitment thousands of runners make each year to run and raise funds for nonprofits both in Chicago and around the world," he said. Pinkowski highlighted how these efforts extend the race's impact beyond its physical course.

The Charity Program began with 14 charities and 1,674 runners. It now supports 217 charities, with more than 17,000 runners expected to participate in 2025.

Carl Allegretti, President of Arbor Investments, stood out among participants by raising $277,491 for charity during his 70th marathon. His fundraising efforts supported Greater Chicago Food Depository, PAWS Chicago, and Lurie Children's Hospital. Allegretti shared his motivation: "In 1986, I started running to get into shape after my college football career... The reason behind my marathons changed in 2007 when my oldest son was diagnosed with cancer and cured by Lurie’s Children’s Hospital."

For those interested in joining this year's sold-out event through charity participation, a minimum fundraising commitment of $2,100 is required. More information can be found at chicagomarathon.com/charity.

The upcoming Bank of America Chicago Marathon will take place on October 12, 2025. It is expected to draw participants from over 100 countries and all U.S. states. The event not only raises significant funds for charity but also contributes over $547 million annually to Chicago's economy.
