Amazon has announced new accessibility updates for its Fire TV, including Dual Audio support, expanded hearing aid compatibility, and tactile device packaging. These features are designed to enhance streaming and home entertainment experiences for customers with disabilities.

According to a news release by Amazon, the company is introducing new accessibility features for Fire TV, such as the Dual Audio option. This feature allows customers with ASHA-enabled hearing aids to stream audio directly to their hearing aids while others can listen through the TV’s built-in speakers. This functionality will be available through a software update on the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series. Additionally, Amazon is expanding ASHA support to include Widex hearing aids, providing more options for users to enjoy high-quality audio from various Fire TV devices.

To assist customers who are blind or have low vision, Amazon has added tactile-marked QR codes to device packaging. These QR codes, which include raised UV dots, direct users to a digital Quick Start Guide with product information, setup instructions, and accessibility feature details. This feature is currently available on devices such as the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series, Kindle Paperwhite, and Echo Show, with plans for broader implementation across other Amazon devices.

Amazon provides accessibility features for various disabilities. These include a VoiceView screen reader for vision impairment, captions and hearing aid pairing for those with hearing challenges, Alexa for mobility tasks, and customizable Kindle settings for learning difficulties. Speech-impaired users can engage with Alexa without voice input. Instructional videos are also available to help users set up devices and use accessibility features.

The company offers various services including online and in-person shopping, delivery of fresh produce, and media distribution. It operates several devices and services such as Alexa and Fire TV and provides cloud solutions through Amazon Web Services (AWS). Its operations encompass logistics and customer service while delivering entertainment through platforms like Amazon Originals, Prime Video, and Audible.
