Amazon has announced several initiatives aimed at reducing, reusing, and recycling packaging during the holiday season. The company is offering programs to assist customers in recycling their packaging and minimizing environmental impact.

According to a news release by Amazon, an Amazon/Harris Poll revealed that over 75% of Americans shopped online for the holidays last year, receiving an average of three packages per week. Amazon provides solutions such as Amazon Day for Prime members to consolidate orders and the Ships in Product Packaging program to minimize excess packaging. The poll also indicates that 89% of Americans are likely to repurpose packaging during the holiday season. "Amazon encourages repurposing cardboard boxes and paper fillers for decorations, custom gift boxes, or wrapping."

The company has introduced initiatives like the Give Back Box, which allows consumers to donate items using Amazon boxes. It has also replaced plastic air pillows with paper fillers made from 100% recycled content globally. Additionally, "Amazon has retrofitted over 120 machines in the U.S. to produce paper bags instead of plastic," helping reduce the use of 130 million plastic bags. Customers are encouraged to recycle their Amazon packaging at local drop-off centers.

Amazon has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 through The Climate Pledge. This commitment focuses on sustainability across operations, reducing waste, responsibly sourcing resources, and fostering community partnerships while upholding human rights and labor standards.

The company offers a range of services including online and in-person shopping, delivery of fresh produce, media distribution, devices like Alexa and Fire TV, and cloud solutions through Amazon Web Services (AWS). Its operations include logistics and customer service, along with entertainment platforms such as Amazon Originals, Prime Video, and Audible.
