The national average for a gallon of gas has decreased by four cents since last week, now standing at $3.48. This decline occurs as a tropical wave with potential to form a storm slowly approaches the Caribbean Sea. If it enters the Gulf of Mexico, oil prices are expected to rise.

“The oil market is volatile, and the threat of a hurricane impacting production and refining will certainly grab its attention,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “Add in the rising tensions in the Middle East, and oil prices are poised to push higher.”

In addition, AAA is introducing a new feature today with further developments anticipated. With an estimated 1.2 million AAA members living in households with one or more electric vehicles, AAA is now including the kilowatt-per-hour cost for Level 2 (L2) commercial charging by state. According to AAA, its members are 28% more likely than the US adult population overall to own an electric vehicle.
