A North Carolina-based pickle company recently announced a $35 million expansion investment that will create 167 jobs in Wayne County.
Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC) made the announcement on Feb. 3 that Mt. Olive Pickle Company is investing millions of dollars and adding jobs to its business. This will include expanding its manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution operations to Goldsboro, according to a press release by the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC).
“Some of our very best business recruiters are the existing industries that continue to reinvest in North Carolina," Cooper said, according to the press release. "The expansion of a household brand like Mt. Olive Pickle Company proves that North Carolina’s quality of life, central location, and experienced talent are attractive to growing companies.”
New jobs created as a result of the expansion will include forklift drivers, truck drivers, manufacturing staff, and managerial personnel, according to the release.
“Congratulations to Mt. Olive Pickles on this major expansion in Wayne County,” Rep. John R. Bell IV (R-Greene) said, according to the release. “This project will not only benefit the community through more jobs, but it will also bring much-needed upgrades to our water and sewer infrastructure. We are very grateful to have Mt. Olive Pickles in Wayne County and appreciate its continued commitment and support of our local community, region, and state.”
The One North Carolina Fund awarded the company with a performance-based grant of $600,000 to help with Mt. Olive’s expansion in North Carolina, according to the release.
“Mt. Olive Pickle [Company] has been an outstanding corporate and community partner for many years,” state Sen. Jim Perry (R-Lenoir) said, according to the release. “This additional investment and new jobs are welcomed additions for Wayne County and we’re ready to support the company in this next phase of growth.”
According to the release, Mt. Olive Pickle Factory was founded in 1926 and is headquartered in Mount Olive, NC. The company packs and sells over 230 million jars across the U.S.
