A Holland, Michigan hair salon owner who recently reopened her small business despite Michigan’s stay-at-home order is quickly becoming an inspiration for others who need to reopen to survive.
“We opened Friday May 15, 2020 and were overwhelmed with support. For that, we are so thankful,” Sarah Huff, owner of Ardor and Grit Salon and Lounge, said on her Gofundme page. “That afternoon we were emailed a cease and desist order.”
In an interview with Fox & Friends Weekend, Huff said she had to open not only for her survival but also for the survival of her seven employees.
“They also have bills to pay,” Huff said. “They have a family to also support and feed. They also have their own mortgages and I have mine.”
Huff’s Gofundme page has now raised more than $31,000, with donators commenting, “Sarah is truly brave, I want to thank her for fighting for our rights.”
“We plan on using these donations for bills, taxes, and fines that go directly towards the business,” Huff said in her latest Gofundme update. “So thank you so much for praying and supporting us.”
Huff has been overwhelmed by the amount of appointments locals are trying to make at her Salon, and she promised to take their safety seriously.
“Please know that we have been specially trained and certified on how to keep things properly cleaned and sanitized,” Huff said on her Gofundme page. “Masks will be worn at all times and every possible surface touched will be wiped down frequently. Only one client will be allowed in at a time to maintain distance from others.”
Huff did not respond to requests for comment.
