Electronic shopping and mail-order houses in June 2019 saw a 12.4 percent increase in sales compared to the same month the previous year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Advance Monthly Retail Trade and Food Services Survey.

Estimated sales for June were $52.6 billion, compared to $46.8 billion in June of the previous year.

The Advance Monthly Retail Trade Survey (MARTS) is compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau by mailing out questionnaires to a sampling of about 5,500 employer firms.

The unadjusted figures provide an initial estimate of monthly sales in the retail and food service sectors.

With the results from each industry, the Bureau computes a framework of sales data, giving insight into the current state of U.S. economic activity.
