Cochise County issued the following announcement on Jan. 3.

Members of the public are invited to participate in a two-day course designed to help prepare them for a major incident.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Course is sponsored by the Cochise County Office of Emergency Services (OES) and will be delivered by first responders and qualified volunteers.

One of the goals of CERT is to train citizens willing to help first responders and the County’s OES in the event of a regional disaster.

The course will cover disaster preparedness, fire suppression, medical operations, light search and rescue operations, psychology and team organization, course review, and disaster simulation.

The class is free and will be held on Saturday, January 12, and Sunday, January 13, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fry Fire Station #2, 4817 Apache Avenue, Sierra Vista.
