Tucson Metro Chamber issued the following announcement on Nov. 14.

Cox Communications presented the Primavera Foundation with a $5,000 donation to further their Community Gardens Program. Part of the donation came from the generous donations of Cox’s employees who call Arizona home.

Primavera provides leadership to several resident and community gardens about using desert-friendly landscaping, harvesting water, and planting native and desert-friendly plants to maximize greenery and growth in the Southern Arizona desert landscape.

“We are proud to support a program that allows community members to come together and help make Tucson a better place to live and work in,” said Lisa Lovallo, Southern Arizona market vice president for Cox Communications.

Primavera partners with community members and other neighborhoods and organizations to help establish a network of community gardens, which have many benefits including preserving green spaces, growing organic and healthy foods, growing community, intergenerational and cross-culture interaction between neighbors, and an increased quality of life. Community gardens can also be vital economic development tools when coupled with a community farmer’s market.
