Arizona Attorney General candidate January Contreras may be guilty of mishandling neglect in a state veteran’s home, according to a new TV ad from the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA).
The ad states Contreras, while serving in former Gov. Janet Napolitano’s administration, oversaw the facility, which was “riddled with patient abuse, including veterans soiled in their own urine,” according to a RAGA press release.
RAGA Communications Director Zack Roday said in the press release that Contreras and other Napolitano staff members were “thoroughly admonished” for the scandal.
“She knew about these horrible conditions for over a month, but did not – or would not – tell the governor until the media started asking questions,” Roday said in the press release. “Arizona simply cannot count on her to provide responsible leadership.”
The ad’s voice-over states “January Contreras had evidence of serious neglect, but did not report it.”
Roday said in the release that safety, not “looking the other way,” should be a priority for any attorney general.
“She should be ashamed of this dark stain on her record and Arizonans should have grave concerns about voting for her failed leadership in November,” Roday added in the release.
