Twenty-six area nonprofits will share more than $114,000 in grant money as part of the city of Goodyear's annual Community Fund program.

The Goodyear City Council recently awarded the grant funding to nonprofits for the July 1st to June 30, 2019, fiscal year. This year's grant funding will assist nonprofits who provide food, child and family services, job training and senior care.

“These services are crucial for some residents,” Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord said in a statement. “We are grateful these organizations are here to provide them with the support they need.”

Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest's CEO Connie Phillips, whose organization was one of this year's grant recipients, said the funding will help their programs for the homeless.

"The city of Goodyear's generosity will be used to stabilize the lives of neighbors in homelessness through our Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-HELP)," Phillips said.  "Through partnership with local congregations, Southwest Valley I-HELP serves as an entry point for connections to community resources that help participants move beyond homelessness."

Goodyear has been providing the grant money to charities through its Community Funding program since 2001.
