The Coconino County Parks and Recreation will host a National Trails Day event, where volunteers will help expand the Fort Tuthill Trail System.
Volunteers will also work to complete a section of the Flagstaff Loop Trail connecting to the Soldiers Trail. For the trail project, the Coconino County Parks and Recreation was awarded a Recreational Trails Program grant from the Arizona State Parks Board. The program involves renovation, maintenance, mitigation and restoration of the Soldiers Trail and the addition of a new trail.
This year marks the National Trails System Act’s 50th anniversary, as well as the National Trails Day’s 25th anniversary. Coconino County marks the event in partnership with Flagstaff Biking Organization, the U.S. Forest Service, Coconino Trail Riders, NATRA, Coconino Horsemen’s Alliance, American Conservation Experience, and Arizona Conservation Corps. The National Trails Day is also sponsored by Absolute Bikes, Fratelli Pizza, Nackard Pepsi, and Kickstand Cafe.
