The Healthy Arizona Worksites Program will honor the City of Avondale with a HAWP Gold Award, which is given to businesses and organizations that excel in implementing health initiatives in the workplace.

Avondale's Human Resources Department has established initiatives that include Fit Bit reimbursement programs, on-site wellness screenings, health-related quizzes and lactation spaces. The City of Avondale also gives nutritional consultations, disease management, coaching and wellness activities to its employees.

"Our sustained commitment to a healthy workplace culture is increasing personal and organizational productivity, while making the City of Avondale an especially desirable employer," Kathy Reyes, benefits program manager for the city's HR department, said. "We believe Avondale is a model for incorporating programs that encourage resilience within our community.”

The  Healthy Arizona Worksites Program is led by the Arizona Department of  Health Services and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. Businesses  and organizations across the state are given Copper, Silver, Gold or Platinum awards for their effort to promote health.

Awardees will be formally recognized at an event in May.
