Kinder Morgan natural gas has proposed a new $40 million gas compressor station in Cochise County as part of its existing El Paso Natural Gas Co. pipeline system, a move estimated to bring 50 local jobs and generate about $1.1 million in yearly state and local tax revenue.

According to the county, Kinder Morgan has proposed building a Dragoon Compressor Station to modify and expand its existing pipeline system in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. 

Also according to the county, Illinois-based Kinder Morgan has not yet decided on a preferred site, but is considering the 40-acre parcel in the Wilcox Bench and a half-mile south of Arzberger Road. Kinder is looking at multiple locations, all within a 8-mile area, according to the county. 

Kinder Morgan representatives recently met with regional wine producers who have vineyards in the area as well as Cochise County Supervisor Peggy Judd and County Administrator Ed Gilligan. 

Kinder Morgan will choose a location next month to initiate a yearlong review process, when the company will gather input from federal, state and local regulatory departments. The company says it will also seek input from community members.
