The City of Buckeye recently celebrated the grand opening of a 0.6-mile accessible trail at the Skyline Regional Park, which was funded through an Arizona State Parks and Trails recreation trails grant. 

The new trail opened Jan. 11, adding to the 16 miles of existing trails in the park. The new trail includes four looped segments made from compressed rocks with low slopes to allow for accessibility including for wheelchairs and strollers. However, bicyclists and horses will not be allowed on trail.

By mid-year, the city will install educational interpretive panels along the new trail to highlight the native plants and animals in Skyline Park. The panels will also include cultural and historical information about the area. 

According to the city, Skyline Regional Park had over 200,000 visitors last year making it one of the most popular west valley sites for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. 

The park is at 2600 N. Watson Road, which is about 2 miles north of Interstate 10.
