The Buckeye Police Department has received two grants totaling over $50,000 from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety to assist with its DUI enforcement efforts.

The Buckeye Police Department recently announced it received two grants, one for $42,755 and another for $7,755 both of which will go towards the department's DUI Task Force work.

According to the Buckeye Police Department, one grant will help the department to cover overtime expenses for officers working with the DUI Task Force throughout the West Valley. The second grant will go towards purchasing equipment such as breathalyzers and an Accuvein system to simplify blood draws that are used as part of the department's impaired driving enforcement.

"Keeping the streets of Buckeye safe is a high priority for the Buckeye Police Department," the department stated in a press release. "These grants will provide the tools and manpower needed to target impaired drivers and other serious traffic violation offenses."

The department's DUI Task Force works to reduce fatalities and injuries caused by alcohol and drug related impaired driving through enforcement, education and public awareness.
