The Cochise County Board of Supervisors has approved an $84,600 bid to refurbish the half-century old Cochise County Law Library.

The board of supervisors recently awarded B-R Construction the job of remodeling the law library in the historic courthouse. 

According to the county, the law library space will be redone to meet the changing needs of patrons and to provide space for interpreting staff. Much of the library's space is being taken up by large volumes of books, some of which back to the 1880's. After the remodel, the space will be used for what the county calls a more user-friendly space. 

“In the past the Law Library was more focused on attorneys,” chief interpreter/translator for Cochise County’s Superior Court Veronica Olivares said in a press release. “But in recent years we’ve noticed our customer service has shifted to people who are representing themselves, or who need various legal forms, packets and instructions.”

The refurbishment project will also include converting the interpreters' office into a reception area and moving the county's translating team into a new area above the adjacent library, according to the county. The county has also hired a librarian for the law library to assist clients in finding the information they need. 

The project is expected is to be complete in about 75 days, according to the county.
