Pete Sepp, president of the grassroots National Taxpayers Union (NTU), recently joined Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) to conduct an employee town hall event centered on tax reform at Geco, an aerospace technology company in Mesa.

"It was an honor to join Sen. Flake in his home state for this important discussion on the need to overhaul our burdensome tax code," Sepp said. “For the first time in over 30 years, Congress is on the cusp of passing comprehensive tax reform; and now more than ever, we need this legislation to make our tax system both fair and simple for everyone.”

Sepp described how important it is that lawmakers strive to “reduce rates, close loopholes and simplify laws” and at the same time be mindful of approaching all of the nation’s industries fairly, without targeting any specific sectors with “punitive” rates. With that in place, he said, all types of businesses will have the freedom to grow, invest and expand their work force.

“We need a fairer, simpler and less burdensome tax system,” added Sepp, explaining why he joined Flake for the event. “We owe that to the middle-class families trying to make ends meet; our small businesses trying to plan for the future, and job creators trying to compete around the world … not only for Arizonans, but for every American.”

Based in Washington, D.C., NTU has worked for nearly 50 years to give voice to the nation’s taxpayers. Its mission is to use effective teamwork to attain optimum pro-taxpayer policy through favorable government legislation.

“I’m excited to get back to Washington to work on it,” Flake said.
