The Cochise County Superior Court is seeking two interpreters to help Spanish-speaking clients and to provide translations for court records. 

The interpreters would be based out of Bisbee but would also travel to assigned courts as needed throughout the county. Duties include interpreting and translating at hearings or at court proceedings, and translating petitions, reports and conversations of judges, court staff, clients and their families.  

“We’re looking for someone who can keep up with the speed of the job and who can accurately interpret and translate without changing the meaning of what has been said,” Cochise County’s Superior Court chief interpreter/translator Veronica Olivares said in a press release. “That’s probably the most important part. The legal terminology can be learned.”

According to the county, the court’s shortage of staff has become even more critical due to a new state requirement stating all court interpreters must be certified by June 30, 2019. The court will accept applicants who are currently not certified, but they will be required to complete the certification process within two years of being hired.
