Gov. Doug Ducey recently appointed the co-founder of the Burton Family Foundation and long-time education advocate Christine Burton to the Arizona State Board of Education. 

Burton, who chairs the foundation, has worked with school districts, charter schools, education foundations, universities and nonprofit education organizations throughout the state.

“Christy will be an excellent addition to the board,” Ducey said in a press release. “She brings a wealth of knowledge on education policy issues through her philanthropic work, but more importantly, her perspective as a parent is invaluable to the board as they consider educational issues that impact Arizona families.”

Burton, a graduate of Arizona State University, holds a bachelor of science degree in economics and a master's of public administration.

“It is an honor to serve in this capacity,” Burton said in a statement. “I look forward to working with my fellow Board members and the entire education community to increase the opportunities for a quality 21st-century education for all Arizona students.”

She serves on several boards including the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation, Teach for America Arizona, Student Expedition Program and the Support My Club board. Burton is also a member of the Camelback High Community Network, Philanthropy Roundtable, Aspen Institute Society of Fellows, Women in Philanthropy and the Arizona State University President’s Club.
