Central Arizona College will help mark National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week with an informational campaign at each of its campuses.

Central Arizona College will join over 700 locations nationwide from Nov. 11-19 in the effort to shed light on America’s homeless population, according to an announcement. The school will set up tables on its campuses that display information on the resources available throughout the Pinal County area for those in need.

National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, started by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign against Hunger and Homeless in 1975, promotes and educates people regarding the nation’s hunger and homeless problem. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 549,000 people in America are homeless on a typical night, and 795 million people in this country go hungry.

The weeklong awareness event is held just prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Organizations and groups use the week to highlight hunger and homelessness and to engage communities to take action.

The National Coalition for the Homeless is a national network of activists, advocates and community-based and faith-based service providers. The organization works to prevent homelessness and to end the problem as they help meet the needs of those who are experiencing homelessness.
